Enhance Educational Foundation Collaborates with Borders Books to Encourage Reading
Literacy Program for Chicago Public Schools Gets Jump Start From Chicago Surgeon

Chicago – July 7, 2006 – Today, Enhance Educational Foundation and Borders Books launch “Dream to Be,” a literacy enrichment program for students of Chicago Public Schools.  The event will take place at Borders Book Store at 835 North Michigan Avenue, from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

There are xx children enrolled in Chicago Public Schools.  Literacy promotion continues to be a focus of Chicago Public Schools and this program is design to take reading to the next level.  Dream to Be was born to promote early childhood reading for Chicago Public School students.  The first event, a book drive, has a four-week duration and is taking place at all Chicagoland Borders Book Stores.  New books will be donated and collected by Chicagoans to reward the Chicago Public School that demonstrates the most significant increase in literacy scores on The Illinois Standards Achievement Test.  The school will be selected and awarded with the book donation this fall when test scores are out and when classes resume.

Children and their parents are encouraged to participate in the Dream to Be event at Borders.  Those who attend can enjoy local area carriage rides while eating cotton candy.  Entertainment will also include clowns, face painting and give away prizes, such as gifts from American Girl and Kozy Bike Store.

Founder of Enhance Educational Foundation, Steven Dayan, M.D., FACS, and Carole Parker Patton of the Chicago Public Schools’ literacy office will be at the event to encourage reading.

Enhance Educational Foundation to award a scholarship to a high school senior

Chicago – October 13, 2006 – Enhance Educational Foundation announced this week a $25,000 scholarship to be awarded to a Chicago Public School student.  The scholarship will be given in December to a high school senior in the Health Sciences division of the Education to Careers program.

The scholarship will be awarded to a CPS student who aspires to pursue a career within the medical/health field and will be applied to a four-year university.  The recipient will be announced in mid-December at the chosen student’s school.

The recipient will be selected based on an essay, grade point average, letters of recommendation and an interview.  Chicago’s own Governor Thompson is among the selection committee members for the scholarship.

Enhance Educational Foundation raised the funds for the scholarship through a sold-out Health, Wellness & Beauty Night on September 28, 2006.  Over 500 guests attended the annual fundraiser and contributed to the scholarship through ticket sales and a silent auction.
